- "I am a right arm above the elbow amputee. About 20 years ago I had the
good fortune to learn about the RIMJET HR Unit. I took immediate steps to
have the unit installed in my prosthetics . It has proved to be a decision I
have never regretted as well as a step of great benefit. I have been
successful in obtaining my pilots license as well as my school bus drivers
license. I paddle canoes and operate chain saws. I love to fish and hunt.
These functions as well as many other activities have been
significantly enhanced by my RIMJET HR Unit, furthermore some of these
activities proved to be very frustrating if not impossible before I received
my RIMJET HR Unit."

- "When our lives crossed paths about six months ago I realized that your
HR Unit would be an improvement I could use. I was taking some risk since
the first set, which is mechanical on the left and Myo Electric on the right
was paid for by insurance and the second set would not be. Today I can say
that the risk was worth it, I am more pleased with the end result. As you
know I travel in my business and made an overseas trip two weeks ago with my
partner. Even though I had someone with me I did what I could on my own. I
was able to do much more one my own than previous trips because of the HR
Unit. For example I was able to eat without help in the cramped quarters of
the airplane for the first time since my accident a year and a half ago.
After this trip I feel that I am able travel by air overseas by myself and
stay in a regular hotel setting for any length of time. This is a very big
step for me in my life.

- I cannot thank you enough for all that you have done to help me reach
this goal. Of course you provided me the equipment and assistance to my
prosthetist, but it was very much more than that, it was the encouragement
and the things I have learned from you that helped me along so fast."

William
Layman
- I was lucky to meet Joe Ivko at a
seminar at Fillauer in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Hosmer componentry, and then
again at the IAOP meeting in West Palm Beach. Mr. Ivko was the guest speaker,
who is also a bilateral above-elbow wearer. Joe has come up with this neat
cable system that doesn't use housing, base plates and retainers. His system
uses Teflon rings which are attached in the forearm and humeral section. It
makes more sense to me that the cable travel through the forearm instead of
out of the forearm for cosmetic purposes and to keep the cable from being
interfered with. Joe had never made an above-elbow prosthesis using a hand.
He always used his system with hooks, and I had a patient who wanted to wear
a Hosmer hand. So with a little bit of adjusting on the forearm section I was
able to attach the hand and the patient was able to use it properly. The
patient noticed that the cable excursion seemed to be easier for him to open
and close the hand and also raise and lower the elbow. One nice feature is
that the patient can change the cable if he or she needs to because there is
no housing for the cable to be threaded through. Spare cables can be made up
and kept with the patient. Among other things that Joe has is the
RIMJET turntable for various types of elbows. This system has a locking
mechanism which will keep the elbow from pivoting when you do not want it to.
I feel both of these systems have helped out my patient and makes wearing a
body powered prosthesis a little more enjoyable. If you would like to see his
demonstration, Mr. Ivko will be attending the IAOP semi-annual meeting in
Atlanta, August of 1999. It will truly be a treat for anyone who is
interested in upper extremity prosthetic.

-
I,
Gary Richardson would like to wholeheartedly endorse the rotating elbow system
developed by
Joe Ivko.
-
Thirty years ago I lost both my arms above the elbow. I was 24 at the time.
It was my extreme good fortune to become aware of Mr. Joe Ivko and his
invention of these rotating elbows. It literally meant the difference of my
being able to function in the normal world or being housebound. I cannot find
words to express how much these elbows have meant to me. It's impossible.
While every other prosthetic part has broken down many times, these rotation
units have never failed me.
-
Joe
invented these out of self-need and therefore had a personal interest in
making them function RIGHT and easy to use.
-
I am
now retired but had worked in outside sales for over 23 years and am able to
drive a car and do numerous tasks that never would have been possible with
standard friction elbow units.
